The battle of Yorktown started on September 28th, 1781. It was the last battle in the Revolutionary War.
It started when General Cornwallis of the British army set up a base in Yorktown on Chesapeak Bay, a busy eighteenth-century tobacco plant. George Washington and the American troops, aided by Lt. Rochamambeau and the French, arrived on September 28th, 1781.

With the French help, America probably had a better chance of winning. The Americans had approximitly 8,500 troops, the French had about 10,800, and the British had roughly 7,500. The Americans, with the French, outnumbered the British by 11,800.
